Officials from Washington’s high schools esports association believe Velazquez is the state’s first national champion in esports. As the pandemic kept students separate, video games played at Lake Stevens High School experienced an e-sports revival.
“People were already only interacting with each other electronically, so it was a very natural extension of that,” stated Trevor Wood, an 11th-grade English teacher and advisor for the school’s video game club. “The school and the district were really interested in the development of the video game group, because it was the primary ways for kids to connect with one another in a social way.”
A recent trend for the game “Among Us,”” an online multiplayer challenge was a huge draw for Velazquez and many others to join the club. Before COVID-19, Wood stated that the video game club had fewer than 10 members. More than 60 students now have joined the discussion channel of the group.
The club also got into the competitive aspect of gaming in which they challenged high schoolers in Washington in the nation in a variety of esports.
The team has taken on events in “Mario Kart” and “League of Legends,” but with little results, but the victory of buy Mut 22 coins Velazquez could help the club to continue its upward trajectory.
