The Armory is a searchable database of information about World of Warcraft. Because the Armory draws its information from the actual servers it is the largest and most comprehensive database about the arena teams, characters and guilds of World of Warcraft in existence.
Although the Armory database is updated automatically however, it’s not an ideal replacement for traditional, non-“life” character databases. It is only able to save a character’s information when they log out, therefore there’s no way to display multiple sets gear (for instance healing, PvP, or resistance items) or the effects of various talent builds.
When the Armory first appeared, many players were concerned that their belongings and stats were viewable for all to see. This was the core of Blizzard’s April Fool’s joke. Be aware that profiles of characters that are below level 10 or who are inactive for an extended period of time will not be displayed.
Every character profile now has a 3D model viewer that shows the character in his or her currently equipped gear and displays accurately the character’s physical features hairstyle, helm/cloak display exactly as they appear in games. Clicking on the character model window will open an option panel that has the following buttons (try it with the character on the right! ):
Camera controls: To rotate the camera around a character you need to hold on the left button, while moving your mouse left and right, or click the arrow buttons in the top left part of the display. To zoom in or out, use the mouse wheel while moving over the character’s window or press the zoom buttons in the top left of the window. If you want to move the image inside the frame, right-click and drag the character in the window (or in the tiny square in the bottom right corner).
Animations: Each character has a selection of animations that they are able to do. Use the arrows below the animation’s name to move through the animations. The animations available are determined by the character’s type and currently equipped weapons.
Capture pose: If you are already logged in, you are able to choose the default pose for any character on your account. Use the camera or animation controls to create a picture, then click save to set it as the default. All visitors to the character’s profile will see the character in that pose.
Play controls: The rewind, pause, and fast forward buttons allow the user to adjust the pose of a character.
Fullscreen mode: You can view the character in an all-screen display with a wide range of backgrounds. All controls will perform in fullscreen mode.
Embed It is possible to embed a standalone, interactive version of the model viewer for your character on a compatible website like social networking sites such as guild websites, guild websites, or forum.
Other options are choosing a background that is in fullscreen mode, and adjusting the display of the character’s helm, his cloak or tabard.
Check out the Character Sheet FAQ for further details.
Calendar Feeds and Character Feeds
It is possible to export character’s information and calendar events to different websites and applications by using the Armory’s new customization tools. These features can be accessed by logging into a character profile or the main navigation menu.
Character Activity Feeds: Each character’s activity feed displays the most recent game actions that the character has performed that can be recorded by the Armory. This includes achievements, boss kills items acquired, and much more. Character feeds can be personalized through our customizing tool. These feeds are then exported to RSS feeds to your RSS reader of choice. Check out the Character Feed FAQ for more information.
The Player Calendar Feeds feature: Another new Armory tool allows you to export the in-game calendars of players to online calendars like Google Calendar. This tool allows you to combine as many as five of the characters on your account in a single feed. The feed is then synched with the characters’ in-game player calendars. Check out the FAQ for Calendar Feed for further details.
